WOMEN IN CHARGE

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is one of the most as inclusive martial art as represented by Gracie Barra's mission of “Jiu-jitsu for everyone”.

Every person who cinches their belt up and bows onto the mats at a GB academy is coming for their own personal reasons. This can be very different for each individual. Each of us has our own challenges, goals and reasons for training jiu-jitsu. But despite this it can still be difficult for female students to make that first step.

Gracie Barra Frome prides itself on being a welcoming environment for all, and goes out of its ways to encourage more female students to join in with all our classes, and experience the benefits we have to offer.

GB Motivation: Advice for Gracie Barra Women

What is 'Women in Charge'?

Women in charge is a broad term for all the programs we run to encourage women into martial arts and fitness. Most students join our school for a range of different reasons, including fitness, confidence or social aspects. But none are more serious than the reasons why women may want to learn a martial art. Because of this, we have created various pathways to help guide anyone into our school in the most suitable way

1 WEEK FREE TRIAL

For most of our existing female students, their first experience of a class at Gracie Barra Frome will be as part of a 1 week free trial in one of our beginners GB1 classes. These are Coed adult classes, including both Male and Female students at the start of their Jiu-Jitsu journey. Students will always be partnered with someone of a similar size to ensure the best learning environment, which can sometimes mean working with a partner from the opposite sex.

For some women, the idea of having to work with a training partner from the opposite sex can induce reactions of discomfort, panic, and most often 'embarresment'. It is because of this we offer a GBF courses periodically throughout the year.

EMPOWERMENT COURSE (GBF)

It has become abundant that Female safety is currently of huge concern, with news and media reporting abuse, assaults and crimes more frequently than before. Because of this, and as part of our goals in community outreach in Somerset, we have designed these FREE 8 week empowerment courses to help local women.

These weekly sessions will be taught by fully qualified Gracie Barra instructors, and will be fully Female Led. This is perfect for individuals who may not be in a position to take part in our standard 1 week free trial or maybe they know that they can't commit to a membership in our classes, but know the benefits of learning simple self defence.

The course will teach self defence, conflict avoidance, confidence building, and situational recreations. Along with the physical aspect of self defence, there will also be opportunity to discuss the emotional side, and share history of past experiences.

If you are interested in doing in with any of our WOMEN IN CHARGE pathways, simply fill in the request form, and we will be in touch.
